While living at home in the small town of Essex, Ontario, my father had come up with the idea of owning his own logistics company. He had asked me to help him get the idea off the ground. I spent my first year in university learning more about logistics than psychology. However, by the end of the year we turned this idea into a company.
My responsibilities were to take charge of payroll, sourcing and negotiating contracts to keep our fleet on the road. I was delighted to be part of my father’s dream and my drive to succeed was born!
During this time, the travel bug bit me. I wanted to know more and see more! I travelled back to my home country, Guatemala and discovered a completely different way of life. Since then, I have been fortunate enough to travel to Belize, England, France and Italy.
My travels motivated me to find my own adventure and I left my small town to move to Toronto. It was a whirlwind experience! I had no idea what to expect but I knew one thing, I was determined to succeed. On the first day I arrived I was offered a dental assisting position working in every aspect of the office. This included running the front desk to managing office purchases. Also, I was fortunate enough to be part of revolutionizing the traditional office into a fully upgraded digital workplace and keeping everyone current with the new technology.
Here I found my forte. I love working with people! During my time in dentistry, I established remarkable relationships with a diverse group of people through easing anxious patients and negotiating with sales representatives.
Despite being enrolled full time at York University for Psychology and working full time, there was something missing…I needed something more!
So I decided to take a year off and focus on my studies in Psychology and see what the world had to offer me. I toyed with the idea of research, but I quickly realized there were three things missing: there were no people, I couldn’t see myself working on one project for the rest of my life and my potential to grow was limited.
During this time, I was fortunate to become a part of an amazing organization called Start2Finish. My role was to mentor under privileged children and teach them the values of health and fitness. Here, I recognized the needs of each child and adapted my teaching style to uncover their full potential.
Now I am excited to be part of the Sales Talent Agency team, where I have the opportunity to use my passion for people, and past experiences to help others maximize their talents and find their dream job in sales!
For the love of sales!
