I was 14 when I made my first big sale...........
I sold my horse. I had trained him myself, won many show ribbons, and had gone as far as I could. I realized I needed something with more power so off he went to Virginia and I was $10,000 richer! In selling him, I learned how to negotiate, how to speak about something and build value, and how to listen to what the client really wanted. Most importantly, I learned that I loved to sell.
After studying International marketing in France I reluctantly returned to Canada and began my sales career in Retail. Here I learned the importance of customer service and professionalism even in the face of exhaustion (12 hour shifts!!). I loved helping people find things that they loved; it was fun and I was making money. I then moved to a new employer as a Corporate Sales Trainer and then a field Marketing Manager. I was teaching people how to sell and also working with DJ’s around the country marketing my company’s products and services live over the air. When an opportunity at a large national retail chain became available I jumped at the chance to manage their National Advertising program and work with the Franchise owners to build their business. Something was missing though - I was no longer selling, and I missed it!
When my friend Renee offered me the opportunity to work with her recruiting for Sales and Marketing roles I jumped at the chance. I would be working with both Clients and Candidates and would manage the entire process, perfect for a control freak like myself. I worked with Renee for a few years, then moved to another recruitment firm because it was a little closer to home - I am one of crazy people that commute huge distances - and helped to launch their Sales and Marketing division. I was recruiting sales and marketing talent at all levels and in all verticals. Then I had a conversation with Jamie at Sales Talent Agency and I knew I had found a new home.
Recruiting has given me the opportunity to work directly with people and help them change their lives. New careers, new beginnings, it’s always challenging, rewarding, demanding and fun! I love my job and am looking forward to developing many new business relationships and making a positive impact in the marketplace and the lives of great sales people!
For the love of sales!
